Common Terminologies of www.

            Some of the most commonly used terminologies related to www are:
Internet


Website:

            Website is the location of web pages created by any Organizations, Universities, and Government agencies to provide information regarding them like: www.computerdashboard.com Each any every website has its own address, is called Internet address. After connecting to the Internet, we have to search any information by using related website address.

Webpage:

            Webpage is the collection of information that is stored in the website. The www consists of a huge collection of documents with related websites called Webpage. Webpage provides vast amount of information of related websites.

Browser:

            A Browser is a software application used to locate and display Web pages. The two most popular browsers are Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Both of these are graphical browsers, which mean that they can display graphics as well as text. In addition, most modern browsers can present multimedia information, including sound and video, though they require plug-ins for some formats.
            Browser is a client server that allows a user to display and interact with a hypertext documents.
·                    Remember, along with a computer equipped with a modem, you need a piece of software called a web browser to navigate the Web.
·                    Internet Explorer and Netscape are examples of web browsers.

Web Server:

            A computer that is maintained by a system administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) and that responds to requests from a user’s browser. A web server is a site on which the Web Pages are kept. It is a program that responds to requests from web browsers to retrieve resources.

Home Page:

            The Homepage is the first hypertext document regarding the web address displayed when a user connects to any web server.

Hyperlink:

            An element is an electronic document that links to another place in the same document or to an entirely different document. Typically, you click on the hyperlink to follow the link. Hyperlinks are the most essential ingredient of all hypertext systems, including the World Wide Web.

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML):

            HTML is the encoding schema used to create a web document.

Uniform Resource Locator (URL):

            URL is a web-addressing scheme that spells our exact location of an Internet resource.

 ISP(Internet Service Provider):

            To access the Internet, you need a computer equipped with a modem and web browser, but you’ll also need an ISP.
            Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are companies that provide access to the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW).
             When you sign a contract with an ISP, you are given a telephone number, a user name, a password, and other connection information so you can connect your computer to the ISP’s computers. An ISP typically charges a monthly and/or hourly connection fees.
            The ISP software package usually includes:
·                    Username. A unique name used to gain access to a computer system.
·                    Password. A combination of keyboard characters. Used in combination with a username, passwords allow access to restricted computer information. It is important to keep passwords secret.

aIf you connect to the Internet at work, you may be part of a LAN (Local area network) that shares network resources. To gain Internet access, your employer contracted with an ISP.
