Publishing a web

Preview in browser

The design view gives a rough idea of what your page will look like in a browser, but the only way to be sure how it will look is the preview it in a browser. Each version of each browser has its won quirks; Dreamweaver strives to produce HTML that will look as similar as possible from one browser to another, but sometimes differences can’t be avoided. (That’s why Dreamweaver doesn’t display a preview directly; there’s no way for Dreamwever to mimic all the different behaviors of all the different browsers.)
Preview in browser shows how the pages will look when you’ve published them.
1.                  If index.html isn’t the current document, switch to it. (If its no open, open it.)
2.                  Press the F12 key.
Your primary browser starts if it’s not running already. It displays the index page.
Note: Dreamweaver should automatically detect your primary browser and use that for previewing. If the preview doesn’t appear, or if it doesn’t appear in the browser you expect, switch back to Dreamweavr (if necessary) and choose File > Preview in Browser > Edit Browser List. The preview in Browser Preferences dialog box appear; add the correct browser to the list. For more information, click the Help button in the Preferences dialog box.
3.                  Move the pointer to point to the rollover images to see the images change. Click links to make sure they work.

Checking links in a pager or site
1.                Save the file to a location within a local site.
2.                Choose File > Check Links.

To check links within  a portion of a local site:
1.                  Choose Window > Site Files to open the Site window.
2.                  Choose a site from the Sites pop-up menu.
3.                  Under Local folder view, select the files or folders to check.
4.                  Initiate the check using either of these methods:
·        Right-click one of the selected files and choose check Links > Selected Files/Folders from the context menu.
·        Choose File > Check Links.
5.                  Select a specific link report from the Show pop-up menu. Your choices are Broken links, External Links, and Orphaned Files.
You can only check for Orphaned Files when you check links across an entire site.
6.                  A list of files that fit the report type you selected appears in the Link Checker dialog box.

To check links in the entire site:
  1. Choose Site > Check Links Site wise.
The link Checker dialog box appears.
  1. Select a specific link report from the Show pop-up menu. Your choices are Broken Links, External Links, and Orphaned Files.
  2. A list of files that fit the report type you selected appears in the Link Checker dialog box.
Note: If you selected Orphaned Files are your report type, you can delete orphaned files from the Link Checker dialog box directly by selecting a file from the list and pressing the Delete key.

Opening linked documents in Dreeamweaver
Links are not active within Deamweaver; that is, you cannot open the linked document by clicking on the link in the Document window.
·        Select the link and choose Modify > Open Linked Page.
·        Press Control and double-click the link.
Note: The linked document must reside on your local disk.

Checking download time and size.
The size and estimated download time of the current page appear at the bottom of the Document window. Dreamweaver calculates size based on the entire contents of the page, including all linked objects such as images and plug-in.
Dreamweaver estimates download time base on the connection speed entered in Status Bar preferences. Actual download time varies depending on general Internet conditions.
A good guideline to use when checking download times for a particular Web page is the eight-second rule. That is, most users will not wait longer than eight seconds for a page to load fully.

To set download time and size preferences:
1.                  Choose Edit > Preferences and then click Status bar.
2.                  Choose a connection speed with which to calculate download time.
