What is Electronic Mail (E-mail)

          E-mail is the most widely used features on the Internet. You can exchange any message with people around the world by using E-mail. Even with the multimedia excitement of the Web, Electronic Mail (email) is the most frequently used application of the Internet. Many people who have access to the Internet at school, home, and work, use the Internet for no other purpose than to send and receive email.
            It’s all very easy. You create the message, log onto the Internet, and send it. The message first goes to your Internet Service Provider’s mail server, which in turn sends it to the recipient’s mail server. On the way your message may go through several servers, each reading the domain name in order to route it to the appropriate server. The message then remains in the recipient’s mail server until he requests it by “checking his mail”

E-mail address:
            E-mail address is the location of individual’s mailbox on the Internet. An email address is required to send and receive email. Email address are different from “snail mail” address. They usually consist of theree parts: a user name, and “at” symbol (@), and a domain name. for example: ram@wlink.com.np

1.    User name: ram
           Located to the left of the @ symbol, a user name identifies your account on the email server that handles the email. For example,  Ram Khanl might choose “ram” as his username. However, someone may have already chosen hemanta, so have some other choices ready. Choose a user name that sounds professional and is easy to remember.

2.    @
            Means “at” and separates your account name and the name of the mail server name. for example, ram “is located at” wlink.com.np

3.    Domain Name: wlink.com.np

            The domain name usually consists of two pieces of identifying information. The first piece is the name of the email server and is located to the right of the @ symbol. For example, wlink is the name of the email server. The second piece, sually a three-letter extension, indicates the top-level domain. They are seprated by periods, called “dots.”

Pconsider choosing a user name that protects your identity instead of your first and/or last name.

Top Level Domains
            Top-Level domains may help you figure out the type of organization the recipient is associated with. See the cart below.

PIf there is a two-letter extension, it is usually a country code. For example, Malaysia user “my.”
            au         =          Australia
            ca         =          Canada
            np        =          Nepal
            jp         =          Japan
            us         =          United States
            in          =          India

PBecause not everyone uses top-level domains correctly, they are not always a reliable way to determine an organization’s association.
