A MAN is a network that covers an entire city, but uses LAN
technology. Cables Television (CATV) networks are examples of analog
Man's for television distribution. The Man's we are interested in are
digital and are intended to connect computers together, not televisions
sets, although some of them may use broadband coaxial as the
transmission medium. Networks come in range of sizes. Your network can
start small, and then grow with your organization.
It is a new physical network technology that operates at high
speeds (usually, hundreds of megabit per second through several gigabits
per second) over distances sufficient for a metropolitan area.
